Notifications & Widgets

The Android version is still in development and testing and has not been officially released. The following describes the currently planned features; the actual screens, availability, and details may change, and some features are not yet enabled.

Push Notifications​

The Android version plans to deliver push via a push service:

  • When a push arrives, it's routed by type to the corresponding notification (new article, forum thread / reply / conversation / alert, deals) and can deep-link to the corresponding content.
  • The app has 4 built-in notification channels: General, Forum, Deals, and Trip Live (trip countdown).
Push not yet enabled (in development)
  • Push delivery is still pending backend configuration (it needs the push service setup and the backend Android delivery), and currently can't be delivered end to end yet.
  • The Android 13+ notification permission is not yet actively requested in the app. On newer Android versions, notifications may require you to enable them yourself in system settings for this app, otherwise they may be silently blocked. This is a known to-do item.

Push Preferences (Sign-In Required)​

Under "Push Preferences" in settings you can adjust:

  • Main toggle: receive push.
  • 6 category toggles: new blog articles, new forum threads, deals, forum alerts, forum private messages, and replies & mentions.
  • Do Not Disturb hours (with time zone).
  • Settings are stored per device and require signing in.

Home-Screen Widgets​

The app provides home-screen widgets:

  • Trip Countdown: shows the next trip's emoji and countdown status (countdown to departure / departing today / in progress / plan the next one) and the trip name.
  • Forum Unread Badge: shows the forum unread count.
  • The widget content is updated by the app on launch (taken from local trip data and forum unread counts).

How to add them: long-press the Android home screen → Add widget → find "YUCTS".

Trip Live Notifications​

For an in-progress trip, the app shows a persistent low-importance notification (the "Trip Live" channel) displaying the countdown, as an alternative to something like "Live Activities" on Android.

Trip Reminders​

The app uses scheduled reminders for trips:

  • Reminders are sent 7 days / 3 days / 1 day before departure (designed this way to avoid the exact-alarm permission).
  • The "Reminders" screen has a live-updating countdown and lets you toggle the reminder per trip.
