Home & Content Browsing
Home
Home brings together travel articles (the WordPress blog) and forum threads (XenForo discussions). From top to bottom it includes:
- Greeting header: A "Let your travels leave their warmth" welcome message.
- Official announcement banner: Shown when there's an active announcement; tap to see details. Important announcements are highlighted in red and can be dismissed with "✕".
- Service status banner: Appears automatically when the core content sites (yucts.com / forum.yucts.com) are under maintenance or unreachable, noting that "some articles may be temporarily unavailable." It can be dismissed.
- Search bar: Tap to open unified search.
- Six category tiles: A 3×2 grid of icons, each showing the current content count for that category ("N posts"); tap to enter the category list.
- Popular destinations: Horizontally scrolling destination cards; tap "View All" to browse all destinations by country.
- Latest articles: One large hero card + two list items; tap a card to read, or tap "More" for the full list.
- Recommended for You: Recommendations computed locally on your device based on your reading interests (requires accumulating a certain amount of browsing).
- Newsletter subscription: Enter your email and tap "Subscribe" to receive a confirmation email (double opt-in).
- Follow us: Instagram / YouTube / Facebook / Threads / X.
Top toolbar: the "compass" icon at the top left opens your Profile; the top right has, in order, Reading History (book), Search (magnifying glass), and Forum Notifications (bell, with an unread badge; the count is not shown for guests). Pull down to refresh.
Without Yucts Plus, banner ads appear on Home, within article bodies, and elsewhere (they're hidden automatically after upgrading; see Yucts Plus Subscription).
Unified Search
Tap the Home search bar or magnifying glass:
- Enter a keyword and submit to search both the blog (WordPress) and forum (XenForo) at once, sorted by date.
- Use chips to switch between "All / Articles / Threads," each showing its result count.
- Toggle "Include marketing content" (off by default, which excludes marketing categories and the admin/marketing boards).
- Before you search, you'll see Recent Searches (up to 10, removable individually or all at once) and Popular Searches keywords.
- When a network problem prevents results from both sources, an error screen with a "Retry" option is shown, rather than mistakenly reporting "no results."
Article Detail
Tap any blog article card to open the article detail page, which from top to bottom has the hero image, title, author, date, category tags, and body. The top-right toolbar offers:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Bookmark | The bookmark icon adds the article to "My Bookmarks"; guests are prompted to sign in first |
| Reader Mode | Presents the body full-screen in a clean reading layout |
| Offline Download | Saves the article body and images to your device so you can read it later without a connection; tap again to remove |
| Translate | "Translate to…" lets you pick a language to translate the title and body, and you can "Show Original" at any time (see AI Assistant & Translation) |
| Share | Share the article link via the system share sheet |
When scrolling a long article, a "Back to Top" button appears at the bottom right. Pull down to force a reload bypassing the cache; if the content can't be fetched online but you've previously downloaded the article offline, the local offline version is shown automatically. Reading any article is automatically recorded in your Reading History.
Bookmarks (My Bookmarks)
- Tap the bookmark in the article detail to add it to your bookmarks; forum threads/replies can likewise be bookmarked within the forum.
- View them under "Profile → My Bookmarks," where you can switch between the "Article Bookmarks" and "Forum Bookmarks" tabs at the top, each showing a count.
- In the list, swipe left or tap the bookmark icon to remove a single bookmark.
- Bookmarks are stored locally and synced to your other devices via your iCloud.
Reading History and Offline Reading
In "Reading History" at the top right:
- Browse the articles/threads you've read by time, filtered by "All / Saved / Blog / Forum."
- Swipe right on any entry to "Save Offline" (download the body for offline reading) or add it to "Bookmarks" (star).
- Swipe left to delete that entry.
- The top right also has two separate entry points: "Bookmarks" (star) and "Offline Saved" (download).
- Entries older than 90 days that aren't marked as saved offline or bookmarked are cleared automatically.
"Offline Saved" lists all articles you've downloaded for offline use; tap to open them in Reader Mode, readable even in Airplane Mode. Swipe left to remove offline content; the bottom shows the number of offline-available articles and the space used by the image cache.
