Privacy & Permissions
This page explains the permissions the app uses and how it handles data. For the full legal explanation, see the Privacy Policy.
App Permissions
Each permission is requested only the first time the feature that actually needs it is used:
| Permission | When Requested | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | After onboarding ends or after signing in, following an explanation and a tap on "Enable Notifications" | Forum reply/PM alerts, trip reminders, subscription expiry reminders, etc. |
| Camera | The first time you take a photo | Photographing receipts, travel photos, etc. (photos are stored only on your device and in your private iCloud space) |
| Face ID | The first time you unlock the "Document Vault" | Protects sensitive data such as passports / visas / policies, shown only after Face ID passes |
| Location (While Using) | Accessed by the screens that need it, and only when you've authorized it | Shows travel articles and deals near your current location; accessed only while using the app, with no background location |
| Tracking (ATT) | After onboarding or after some time of use, informed via an explanation page before asking | Ad personalization (you can still use the app if you decline; ads simply become non-personalized) |
When choosing photos, the iOS system photo picker is used, so the app does not need photo library access permission.
Under "Profile → App Permissions," you can view the current status of notifications and ad tracking (ATT), and go to iOS settings to adjust them in one tap.
Data Storage and Sync
- Travel data (trips, expenses, checklists, journals, photo metadata, saved places, etc.): Stored on your device and syncable across devices via your iCloud / CloudKit private space. You can toggle iCloud sync on the profile page.
- Confidential fields in the Document Vault: Stored only in encrypted form on the current device, never uploaded or synced.
- Trip photos: Synced across your devices via the app's cloud storage (R2).
- Account-related (sign-in state / tokens): Stored securely in the device's Keychain.
- AI conversations: Stored in the cloud to provide history when "Sync conversations to account" is on and you're signed in; you can turn off sync at any time so conversations stay only on the device. In cloud mode, the content of your questions is sent to the AI service provider for processing (on-device mode is fully offline and uploads nothing).
- Reading history, bookmarks: Mainly local; bookmarks are synced via iCloud.
Handling of Push and Location Data
- After enabling push, the app registers the device push token and subscribed topics with the backend to deliver the notifications you subscribe to; it's deregistered when you sign out.
- Location permission is While Using Only; the app has no background location, does not track you continuously, and does not upload precise coordinates.
Ads and Tracking
- The app shows ads to keep the service free.
- You can change whether tracking is allowed at any time under iOS "Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking"; declining tracking does not remove ads — it only makes them non-personalized.
- Upgrading to Yucts Plus removes in-app ads (see Yucts Plus Subscription).
Managing Your Data
- You can manage your account data yourself in the app or on the forum; to delete your account, see Account & Sign-In.
- Clearing cache: Under "Profile → Local Storage," you can clear the blog / forum / emoji cache.
