Travel Planning & Map
The top of the Travel tab is a map; the paper-plane icon at the top right opens the Travel Hub, which gathers all the travel tools. The Travel Hub can switch between three layouts (Cover / Bookshelf / Timeline), and your choice is remembered. Most travel data is stored on your device and synced across devices via your private iCloud space (no app sign-in required).
Travel Map
- Switch regions using the city/country chips above or the pins on the map; the map focuses on that area and the article list below updates accordingly.
- After selecting a country, the city pins within it are shown; the numbers on the chips are the article counts for each region (computed in the background, with caching).
- This map is for browsing and filtering content; to add a place, use trip planning or saved places below.
- The app tries to set the default map region based on your location; this is applied automatically only before you've manually panned/zoomed, and if location isn't authorized, it defaults to showing Asia.
Trip Planning
Open "Trip Planning" in the Travel Hub:
Create / manage trips
- Top right "+" → "New Trip." Fill in the name (required), cover emoji, start/end dates, budget, and notes.
- Press and hold a trip card to: edit, delete, or duplicate as an alternative (create an alternate version).
- "+" also supports importing an existing trip or route file (JSON / GPX / KML).
Waypoints within a trip
- After entering a trip, tap "+" to add a waypoint: you can enter a name and search for the place on the map, set an emoji, planned visit date, and notes.
- When editing a waypoint, you can turn on the "Specify Time" toggle to set the time down to the minute; waypoints with a specified time show a prominent time badge on the right of the list.
- Waypoints are grouped by visit date; the map at the top of the trip detail shows the route as connected lines and displays a completion progress. Between two adjacent waypoints on the same day, a "~N min drive to next stop" drive-time estimate is shown (calculated by Apple Maps; not shown when offline or when no route is available).
- Waypoints can be edited, swiped left to delete, or swiped right to mark complete; when there are two or more, you can enter reorder mode to adjust the order, and you can also press and hold to "move to another day" or "move to unscheduled."
- The trip menu (⋯) lets you: export JSON, export PDF (including the itinerary, spending analysis, and photo wall), and start/end the Lock Screen Live Activity countdown.
Trip Templates
"Trip Templates" provides 5 built-in templates: 7-Day Japan Classic (Tokyo + Kyoto + Osaka), 3-Day Tainan Food, 5-Day Korea Two Cities (Seoul + Busan), 4-Day Thailand Explorer (Bangkok + Ayutthaya), and 3-Day Hong Kong Shopping. After previewing each day's waypoints, tap "Create Trip" to automatically create a trip starting today with the waypoints for each day.
Saved Places
"Saved Places" :
- Top right "+" lets you search for a city/landmark on the map, or add multiple popular destinations (Tokyo / Seoul / Bangkok…) in one tap.
- Swipe left to delete; swipe right to "Add to Trip."
- Tap a place to view local weather (see Travel Tools).
- The list syncs across devices via iCloud (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore).
Booking Management
"Bookings" (requires an existing trip):
- "+" adds a booking; types include flight / accommodation / activity / transport / insurance, and you can fill in status, title, start/end times, currency, amount, booking number, and platform.
- Tap a card to edit; press and hold to delete or set a "remind me the day before."
- Bookings with a confirmation code can generate an offline ticket stub and QR in the "Ticket Wallet" (see Travel Records & Documents).
Companions
"Companions" (requires an existing trip):
- Add a companion (name, email, role, expense split ratio; ratios are automatically normalized to 100%).
- Shows shared expenses and each person's amount due.
- Once signed in, you can enable cloud collaboration to invite others to view or edit together via an invite link, and set Editable / Add-only / View-only permissions (see Travel Records & Documents → Cloud Collaboration).
Departure Reminders
"Departure Reminders" :
- Enable the reminder toggle for each trip; when on, a local notification is sent the day before departure and on the morning of departure.
- Requires notification permission; the trip must have a start date set.
Expense Statistics
"Expense Statistics" aggregates your travel spending across trips:
- Switch between This Month / This Year / All Time to view total spending, daily average, per-trip average, and largest single expense.
- Set a trip budget cap and per-category budget caps, presented with charts such as monthly trends and category breakdowns.
(For expense input and per-trip charts, see Travel Records & Documents.)
