Privacy and Permissions

YucDu is designed to touch your data as little as possible. This chapter explains which permissions it needs, where your data lives, and what it deliberately doesn't do.

What YucDu Doesn't Do

  • No account, no login required. Every article loads anonymously.
  • No ads, no tracking. The app shows no ads and never asks for tracking permission (there's no App Tracking Transparency prompt).
  • No in-app purchases or subscriptions. All features are free to use.
  • No web views quietly loading content. Articles are always shown with native components, and potentially dangerous content is stripped before loading.

Permissions the App Needs

YucDu requests only one permission, and only when it's needed:

PermissionPurpose
NotificationsTo alert you when there's a new article. You can turn it on or off anytime in iOS under Settings → Notifications → YucDu. See Notifications.

The app does not need camera, photo library, location, or microphone access.

Where Your Data Lives

  • Favorites — Stored in your own private iCloud database and synced across your devices; we can't read what's inside. If iCloud is temporarily unavailable, your favorites stay on your device first.
  • Reading progress, recently read, and search history — Kept only on your device.
  • Offline articles — Articles you've read are cached on your device for easy offline re-reading (cleared automatically after about 14 days), and you can clear them manually anytime in Settings → Data → Offline Cache.
  • Appearance preferences (light/dark, accent color, layout, text size) — Saved on your device.

Notifications and Data Transfer

  • If you allow notifications, the app sends this device's push identifier to our notification service so we can notify you when there's a new article. This identifier is not linked to your identity and isn't used for tracking.
  • Content like articles, categories, and search loads anonymously through our service (api.yucdu.com), always over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
